Some really smart nerds at M.I.T. have figured out a way to fly an unmanned flying vehicle with an iPhone. Don’t be surprised if you start seeing the military distributing iPhones installed with a bunch of military apps to all their soldiers!

The project, headed by M.I.T. professor Missy Cummings, an ex F/A 18 Hornet fighter pilot for the U.S. Navy. “In six weeks, we went from the idea to a real flight test,” she stated, with only $5,000. She initiated the project to find a more efficient solution for what the U.S. military current uses as controllers for unmanned vehicles. The iPhone controllers essentially reduce huge bulky and heavy controllers to simple pocket-sized devices.
