iPhone in Korea Launch “Party” 2009

Festive balloons tethered to the gymnasium venue for the iPhone in Korea launch “party” of 2009.

Portion of the 1,000 lottery winners. Some of these guys were waiting more than 24 hours.

iPhone demos for people to actually hold and handle the device. First time for most. The guy in front of me pulled out his iPod Touch to compare side by side to the iPhone. He realized the iPhone is a little bigger, thicker, and heavier.

View of the outdoor area of the iPhone launching event. They had different sections where the 1,000 lottery winners were herded into. They had separate holding areas, just like for livestock.

Home stretch if you are a lottery winner. You pick up your iPhone, make your way around, and pick up other free goodies like accessories and information about the iPhone.

New iPhone owner holding the famous device. When I asked if it was OK to take a picture of him for the website, he said it was fine only if it wasn’t for a Korean website.

A couple more fans.

Part of KT’s fleet of SHOW vehicles parked outside the venue.

Nice event! Wish I had lived in Seoul so I could attend! Just checked my iphone tracking info, and I should definitely have it in hand tomorrow. I’ve heard people elsewhere complaining about delays, but if you ordered it really early (last Sunday), you will probably have it tomorrow.

Ian,
I felt like an unwanted dog at the iPhone launch event. Hopefully I’ll have mine in hand by the end of the week. Let us know when you get your iPhone. We want to hear about your first impressions!

My wife and I took a taxi past there on Sunday heading to COEX to watch a movie. I was wondering why the traffic was so bad.

Hey there Admin,
I don’t see any email address or other information to get in contact with you. But I’ve been thinking for a while now to ask you if you need/would like another contributing author to your blog. I liked how you did the iKorway app review and of course keeping up on the progress of the iphone’s release.
I was thinking maybe I could help contribute such as cover reviews of other apps that would be relevant to an English speakers in korea who have an iPhone.
Some apps that I try out a handful of are dictionaries for English to Korean as well as some specialty apps that would only be useful in Korea such as the noraebang book app that list artist’s names, songs and their respective numbers from the two different companies that make the karaoke machines.
Also I was curious as to how you look upon jailbreaking. I could give a guide, or up to date references to the process, advantages of it, the cautions of having it, and so on. As well as speak about the homebrew mentality of jailbreaking rather than looking at it just as piracy.
It sounds like you do a lot of reading about iPhones, and I would have to say that I would be probably right up there with you (If I can say so myself) and I really found your site helpful and sure would enjoy being able to contribute to your site as well.
Let me know what you think and how you would like to approach this if you are interested in taking on another article contributor.
Thanks for your time.
Bests,
Benjamin

Well I see that you have disabled the admin check for approval on comments lol. I can understand that as the ‘Foreigners and Iphone in Korean’ article blew up with comments.
Hopefully you’ll take me up on my offer, and the last post might actually get a few other avid readers to offer article contributions too
